JESUS' SON was recommended to me as the perfect tryout book for Johnson's literature. This second lesson on the Baptism of Jesus turns to baptism. However, while all of these stories are amazing and inspiring, they pale in comparison to the greatest story ever told. Joe—is that why Junkie Love is a true story—because you could never capture the real thing in fiction? Jesus Raises the Son of the Widow of Nain You may remember that last week, as we were looking at the story of Elijah competing with the prophets of Ba'al, I said that Elijah was an unpleasant person. Think about the parable of the Prodigal Son. A child-friendly, lyrically written book that weaves 44 Bible stories into a common tapestry that clearly shows God's plan for mankind. In today's story, indeed, Elijah restores the hope a widow by raising her son from death. And all our stories today have this theme of God and life defeating Sin and Death. We have sons coming back to life. I actually had know idea there was ever a movie made for Jesus' Son. I was describing the story "Emergency" to my girlfriend one day and she said, "That sounds a lot like this movie I saw with Jack Black and Billy Cruddup. Tryout turned out to be the keyword, here. They are heading in one direction. Particularly Elijah and Elisha, both of whom raised the dead. When prophet Mohammed came after hundreds of years after Jesus, he did not have to prove Jesus existed because everyone at that time knew. We have widows getting back their places in society. Luke's Gospel provides story after story to illustrate why Jesus is the Messiah and the Son of God and how God is doing a new thing in the world. The story of how God sent His only Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins! I only saw the movie of Jesus' Son. And since thirty is a week away, i ordered it on abebooks.com (for some odd reason the library did not have a copy) and read it in about two days (due to the quick-paced momentum of the stories). Luke reminds us that Jesus is like the prophets of Israel. In the other direction, at the same time, you have another crowd — the crowd following a widow as she goes to bury her only son.
